Féile Clai - mission statement

Féile Clai (Festival of Clay) combines an Irish and a Welsh word to symbolise the essence of the project which will run for three years. It will bring together ceramicists from Ireland and Wales in an exciting new partnership to develop events, exchanges and exhibitions, The International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth, a biennal event that attracts 1000 visitors from around the globe, will be used as a model to create a parallel event in Ireland which will take place in alternate years. There will be an exchange programme of exhibitions and workshops held in the Intereg region. The project aims to encourage equal opportunities and environmental sustainability in ceramics through discussion forums, 'hands-on' activities and promotional events.

Féile Clai will create a new partnership between Ireland and Wales to promote the ceramics sector in both regions. The project will support new makers and small ceramic businesses to create a high standard of work and to promote this at the best possible advantage. Feile Clai events in both regions aim to provide a combination of support, guidance and practical hands on techniques. Féile Clai will hold ceramic master classes, two major ceramic exhibitions of new work, one major exhibition from established makers in Ireland and Wales and a ceramic festival in each respective region.

Féile Clai will be receiving in total €238,180 in Ireland and as it is a match funded project we the Irish partners have to raise €103,995 over the next three years. We will be doing this with the aid of the Crafts Council of Ireland, Ceramics Ireland and Scarva Pottery Supplies.

The following have been employed by the project,
Who are all contributing part of their time at match funding:

Grainne Watts - project Assistant,
Tina Bryne - Co-ordinator
Laura O'Hagan - Project Assistant Manager.
